Project Overview
Full architectural service for managing contractor procurement.  Complete involvement from conceptual design to final inspection and commissioning.

Special Issues
A complete regional prison housing all categories of prisoner including remand and sentenced:
Accommodation for detention, maximum, high and medium security prisoners with ancillary accommodation in a medical unit, including observation areas etc. for the emotionally disturbed. As constructed initially, there is accommodation for 400 prisoners. All infrastructure and support facilities have been sized for 600 prisoners.  The Master Plan makes provision for extension to 1000. Extensive provision is made for prison industries and a dedicated bakery for outside contracts is part of the kitchen complex.  Sizing of discrete units of accommodation reflects consideration of all relevant local staff union priorities for streamlining management. Much of the facility is air conditioned. The building fabric reflects minimum maintenance characteristics.

Project Delivery Method and Performance
The project was completed in approximately 19 months being commissioned in early 2001.  The project delivery method was by managing contractor.
