Brisbane Correctional Centre

Project Overview
Full architectural services from design through to facility commissioning but not including contract administration.
Joint Venture between Codd Stenders and Guymer Bailey.

Special Issues
This was a challenging project involving the re-commissioning of a new facility based on the reworking of some existing facilities of the old Sir David Longland Centre and the demolition and rebuilding of 320 cells based on the current Queensland model.
To accomplish this task the facility was closed so that work could proceed as efficiently as possibly.  Work involved the reconstruction and reconfiguring of the secure perimeter and linking of all electronic systems as currently required.
Particular issues relating to levels and the underlying rock strata posed a unique challenge in meeting all disabled access requirements. Total accommodation of the completed project will be  560 beds.

Project Delivery Method and Performance
The project was sourced under the Queensland Managing Contractor system with the design team novated to the main contractor Bovis Lend Lease at the completion of the design stage. Good working relationships with the government departments, contractor and consultant team has resulted in the timely delivery of a state of the art facility.
